One of the greatest gifts I get as a photographer is being able to share not only the special moments we plan for, but also the moments that come unexpectedly. A couple months before the wedding, I was told that the youngest brother of the groom had suddenly died. It was the most beautiful and intense wedding I have yet experienced with so much love and tenderness all around. I am so grateful that I can be there to share and capture these moments for such special people.
In the place where John Muir and Teddy Roosevelt met to secure the greatest pieces of the natural American landscape, we stood on the same spot and vowed to secure the natural love and bond between the two of us. May we always protect, cherish and honor the most blessed of natural gifts, most prominently love.
No two couples have the same story, and still less have two people the same path toward each other. But when destiny swings both ways, it's beautiful to see the happiness of two people coming together and building their own truly special life together.
These two friends paired up to turn a simple shoot into a hot little mess!
For every heart there is a reason for its fall. We came to this beautiful venue to be amazed by its natural beauty, but what a joyous feeling it was to be so immersed in the families love and care for this beautiful couple. Their soft glances at each other, their stolen kisses. Such is love and what a beautiful joy to capture it with them.
Desert sand dunes move by the rushes of wind. And the wind moves by the warmth of the sun. But neither the sand, nor the wind, nor the sun know precisely what makes the dunes so majestic. The Alchemist of the universe, however, knows how to take these elements and make their beauty magnificent. And so too none of us know precisely what makes true love, but somewhere between breaths and forces of life, we fall deeply into the arms of a lover that taps into our inner most self in such a way as to leave us entirely breathless by their presence. That is the mark of true love, the feeling that nothing else in the world could ever be so wrong as long as the love shared between each other is unmoved by the forces of change. We stand resolute that come high wind, or blistering heat, we will trust the Alchemist's design and stand together amidst it all. And we too shall be made majestic, not by our design, but by the design of the one who moves wind by sun and sand by wind into majesties so timeless that nothing in the world can compare to them.
My beautiful couple flew down from San Francisco for a two-day, seven location shoot. She was gorgeous every moment, and his patience and humor and gentlemanly demeanor made this one of my favorite all time sessions. This session in the desert, among these jagged rocks were a stark contrast to the tenderness of this young couple. Theirs is an out of this world kind of love, and I am so excited to share it!
Autumn mist and sunshine love. Who says we don't get fall in Southern California? I love vintage tones and throwback looks. I've known this family for a few years now and they're some of the most beautiful people I've ever been given a chance to work with. I could think of no better family to represent that autumn feel and that sunshine love than them. As fast as the world seems to be moving, take some time to stop and look back at everything that lead up to now. Our lives are wrapped in nostalgia and it gives our lives meaning and scope and feel. Enjoy this vintage, autumn, Southern California set.
Falling in love is the easy part. Heck staying in love isn't that hard really. It's finding your way through the thick vein of family and life that makes the whole thing so damn hard, but so damn worth it. Find the light you need to fill your soul full of family and joy and even the everyday chores. Make it all so damn good and so damn worth it!
Forever young in love. San Diego, Coronado Island. The freedom of wind and sea. There story is full of young love, and realistic hope for a beautiful future, for their joy and their togetherness is one of those kind that you can only hope for your friends and children. How sweet it is to be happy; how sweeter still shared.
I have never seen a child leave the beach worse than when she came. There is something about the salty air and sunshine (and a load of sand down your shorts) that turns any day right just by being there. The ocean is the great elixir. And from it we have all come. So maybe family is like the ocean. And if you have small children, well hey you get to deal with all that sand down the shorts!)
Sometimes people come into your life that inspire you and give your work meaning. Sometimes those people are very, very little.
