As P.G. Wodehouse said, "Red hair, sir, in my opinion, is dangerous." And how right he was! You cannot know whether to love her or fear her, but she'll let you know soon enough. This session at the London Hotel in Beverly Hills takes my breath away. Bryte Darden is as spritely and serious as they come, and you couldn't take a bad picture of her even with a broken camera.
Relax, and take it easy. Sometimes all you need is a good book, some favorite music, a cup of coffee and a long weekend to make things right. Sit back, and take it in.
Probably one of my favorite shoots of all time. Could one find a princess and capture her in her private thoughts, what would you find? All the elegance and beauty surrounding her could never manage to untangle the weaves of thought inside of her. Seek her and you shall find her.
“And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music.”
― Friedrich Nietzsche
Two things I love the most, summer and sunsets. When I was a kid I would go out to the beach and just sit and wait for the green flash at sunset. Today, I'm still looking for that magical flash of light. This session proved nothing less than magical, light drifting along the California coastline and the sun beaming with brilliant intensity. The stunning, Kalison Nix could not have been a better, more beautiful subject for that day!
Arrogant, boisterous, fiercely independent, call it what you will, the American Spirit still lives strong. The road, the passion, the dream...for all of those who still embrace the rugged individualism of freedom, here's to you!
If there is one thing certain in life, it's that you don't get anywhere by sitting on your couch. Up before the sun, geared and ready to go, hearts pounding, adrenaline rushing...Taking these shots, I was not only on the edge of my seat, but also on the edge of the cliff. The sheer courage and confidence of the men and women who do this thrills me, inspires me. I might not be able to jump off with them, but I'll follow them all the way down. Bravo, team! What a great jump and a great shoot!
A linen dress, sun umbrella and a beautiful lake surrounded by mountains make for the perfect vintage lifestyle shoot. When I first discovered this place I knew it would be filled with nostalgia. Put a couple in love and their endlessly pretty daughter, add a dash of of your favorite prop and you get a day of vintage inspired creation. The best part, is when it's a family you've known for years and they keep coming back to try new things. I love my clients!
The 1950's pinup, glamorous, sassy, not-so-innocent. She broke through accepted cultural norms of femininity while at the same time not only exposing her own sensuality, but doing so as the author and agent of her own body, her own beauty and her own sexuality. She is a cultural icon of both domesticity and anti-domesticity, and she represents the feminine struggle for identity and power in a male-dominated society. Long live the pinup. May she never lose her appeal, her spirit and her ability to empower women to shed off the expectations of others without losing herself in the process.
Calabasas, CA, home of celebrities, soon to be empty-nesters, and up and coming talent, was scorched in an all too familiar southern California wild fire. The fire that burns closest is the hardest one to handle, and this being the area I live in, I took my camera to capture not only the intensity of the fire, but the intensity of the men and women of the Los Angeles Fire Department and LAPD, who worked tirelessly to fight the blaze, which jumped all afternoon, ember to ember, reigniting the mountains ever unexpectantly. I am so impressed by these men and women, and this is their story of today's heroic fight.
Simple surroundings, light and beauty, so much simple joy.
Is there not something magical about the Joshua Tree desert? It expresses a prickliness of pained sensuality contrasted by a majestic simplicity with its vast open space and enormous weather-worn boulders. Sparkled throughout the whole desert are the Joshua Trees, a biblical allusion to the praying man, but also an symbol of patience, want desire, and unimaginable beauty. This session seeks to bring out some of my emotions in that desert. It has a sense of pained sensuality, a sense of want and desire, a sense of simplicity, patience and overwhelming beauty. I am in love with this session! Enjoy!
